At any given photo lab in Japan in the 1980s and 90s, you could drop your 35mm film off and get it developed and printed within 1 hour. There was a running competition as to which lab could develop and print your photos the fastest. These labs would also gift customers various free promo items (some of these are highly sought after by collectors today) to compete further. Over the years, one that became the industry standard was a small photo album to display your photo prints in.
This particular design is based on one such album and the '55Station company logo' that was very common in Japan in the late 80s and early 90s and a favorite of Third Culture. It also inspired the '55 Minute Speed Print' Photobook by Jean-Paul McAllan which was published by Third Culture in 2019.
